August Giveaway Time!

I love teachers! I think they're great, and very much in need of lauding. I'd like to tell Mrs. White, my 8th grade English teacher, just how much I appreciate that she hammered grammar into me. I'd also like to tell Mrs. Peltzer, my 6th grade teacher, how much I appreciate her introducing us to art and culture. Both are things that I did not really appreciate at the time, but that I became so thankful for as an adult!

This month, as we all prepare to go back to school, as student or teacher, or send our kids back to school, I thought we should each take a moment to send a shout out to our favorite teacher - past or present. So without further ado, I am offering one of the lanyards, of your choice, from my shop in this month's giveaway. Use it yourself, or give it to a special teacher you may know - they are are awefully cute, and quite helpful in keeping track of your keys and badge!

To enter this giveaway:
1. Tell me who your favorite teacher is or was, and why so. Leave your comment here on this blog post, including your email address, so that I can contact you should you win.
2. For additional entries, tell your friends about this giveaway by blogging about it, tweeting about it, mentioning it on Facebook or other social networking sites - you get the picture. Leave each link in a separate comment.

Comments can be left starting Saturday, August 1, 2009 through 11:59pm Friday, August 14, 2009. The more links you leave the more chances you have of winning! I'll randomly select one winner the morning of Saturday, August 15th, and announce the winner on this blog.

Good luck!

Happy Weekend! Amy

I loved my high school math teacher, he is fabulous! He always taught us "tricks" and such that made the math topics easier to understand, and he was fun to be around :)

My favorite teacher was Mrs. Giesbrecht, my grade 7 teacher. I hated to read back then, found it quite difficult, and she started a special class a couple of times a week, for those of us who needed help reading. Thanks to her - I love to read!! She still remembers me and we chat every time we meet in town.

(sorry for deleting the first comment... my mistake)

Without a second thought my favorite teacher was was my eleventh grade English teacher Ms. Gibson.

She was known as the meanest and most strict teacher of the entire school. Seriously, kids would move out of her way when she walked down the hallways and avoid passing her classroom. lol.

But I, and I am sure some others, did not keep hold of that image of her always. Once you got to know her... meaning stepping outside of your own teenage universe... we found her to be totally awesome! She was an ex-cop, which explained her air authority. She deeply cared about teaching, which explained her frustration with us kids and our disinterest in proper English skills.

So anyway.... to make a long story short (too late), she called me into her classroom and explained to me that she noticed I was suffering from dyslexia. After eleven years of schooling and only she took the time to notice. With the help of my mom, Ms. Gibson and I would head over to the university after school a few times a week for testing and lessons to help me understand and overcome my troubles. By the time I graduated I was an B to A student.

I still trip up now and then and I am sure Ms. Gibson would be applaud with my grammar. I know she would be proud of me for how far I have come.

Ms. Gibson rocked! I am now an artist/crafter, but I also drive a school bus to pay the bills... and everyday I think of Ms. Gibson and hope the kids I am taking to school are as lucky as I was to have a teacher like her. She is on my top five women roll models. :D

I had several amazing teachers, and they inspired me to embark on a teaching career! I am a high school English and Journalism teacher in North Carolina!
I loved my 11th grade English and Creative Writing teacher, Mrs. Badgett. She always thought outside the box and we never felt like we were in school - it was as if we were all friends hanging out and having fun (but we were learning!).
I also loved my 1st grade teacher Mrs. Elaine Martin. She made me realize my potential at a young age and she inspired my lifelong love for reading!

Mrs Daigle, my 4th grade teacher was a favorite. She was strict and kept the class in order...in those days we had 30 students to a class and no teacher aids to help! She introduced me to the Little House on the Prairie books, my first chapter books and I am so thankful for her encouragement to read books that would be a challenge....I was never intimidated by big books after that. She died this year :(

Mt favorite teacher of my school years was a Mrs. Stark, who taught me Spanish with the best accent, which opened innumerable doors to me in life. The greatest teacher of all time in my opinion was Jesus, especially in his parables and illustrations. Thank you!

My favorite teacher was my 1st grade teacher, I think mainly because she was nice to everyone. I don't remember her being mean to anyone.

My favorite teacher was my mother. She dedicated her whole life to her teaching and taught many underprivelidge children who went on to become successful adults. She is the reason I became a teacher. I saw how much of an impact one caring and compassionate individual can make in a community by spending a little extra time and alot more love.

I would love to win a lanyard for myself for when I am teaching, as I am constantly loosing my keys (another trait I picked up from my mother!)

Mr. Strobel at Sycamore Elementary in Indianapolis was my favorite teacher. He was very knowledgeable and passionate about his subject matter. He found what the students were interested in and helped us explore more for ourselves. It was a great experience - never realized I liked the past until his history and social studies classes. Learned a great many things and he didn't censor things - History is brutal and real.

Great teacher I heard he retired but I'm sure he affected many generations.

My favorite teacher was my crazy math teacher Mr. Sullivan. He made math interesting, and he was willing to stay after class for hours to help anyone willing to come in for tutoring. I was years behind in math when I started 7th grade; he got me up to speed. He was the only math teacher who could ever get around my fair-staggering dyscalculia and make it all sensible. My ability to do even simple sums is entirely due to him.

Also, he once hucked a computer out the second-story window of the school. So awesome.
